Claims & Litigation Specialist (In Ofc 4 Days/Wk)

About the position

This position will protect the assets of Georgia Power Company and its affiliates by mitigating the financial impact resulting from claims made against the Company. The goals of the position will be met by successfully managing litigation and third-party claims and providing risk guidance to all organizations within Georgia Power Company and its affiliates. There will be an in-office presence expectation at 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA four (4) days per week and/or as additionally required. Applicants must be willing and able to participate in a 24-Hour on-call rotation when required or be in the office a minimum of 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive investigations of all serious incidents involving Georgia Power Company and its affiliates in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage resolution of all claims and lawsuits brought against the Company through coordination with the Legal Department, outside legal counsel, and direction of Company personnel.
  • Act as company representative in legal proceedings including depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel to obtain expert witnesses, assist with jury selection, witness preparation, and responding to subpoenas, interrogatories, and requests for productions of documents.
  • Manage cases through review of legal expenses, accurate setting of reserves, continued monitoring of cases for changes in liability/damages, completion of internal reports, and reporting to excess insurance carrier.
  • Comply with reporting requirements of state and federal agencies.
  • Assist region operations personnel by providing guidance for the effective resolution of third-party property damages claims.
  • Provide guidance to personnel responsible for cost recovery initiatives such as asset damage collections as well as other debts owed the company.
  • Provide advice and counsel to other business units regarding liability avoidance and loss control issues.
  • In consultation with the Legal Department, support the business needs of other departments by providing appropriate risk control documents such as contracts, liability waivers, confidentiality agreements, releases etc.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to and fulfilling requests from internal and external organizations and entities. Requests typically come from local, state, and federal governments, schools, clubs, trade organizations, business and chamber of commerce groups, and non-profit organizations.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Electric distribution and transmission system operations highly desired.
  • Experience coordinating defense of claims is recommended.
  • Knowledge of the Company's organizational structure and the operation of its business units is desirable.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks with high level of effectiveness.
  • Capable of completing complicated job assignments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiating skills and experience negotiating with customers preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage relationships with diverse customer and client base. This includes external and internal customers as well as all levels of management within the Company.
  • Occasional travel and 24-hour on-call availability.
